We’ve hit the ground running with the first 2 months of the new financial year having flown by.
Since the last newsletter we’ve brought on another 4 drivers for Thomastown. We also have a healthy number of prospective volunteer drivers coming through, with another 7 in the pipeline for Thomastown and 6 for Hoppers Crossing. It’s also worth noting that 4 of that number are women, which will be a nice boost to the number of female drivers on the team. Of our 42 current drivers, we have 6 female drivers, 3 at each base.
We have also brought on another 4 volunteer outing hosts and have another 13 coming through onboarding and training, which represents a lot of current activity in volunteering.
We held a volunteer social night on the last Tuesday in July with over 20 in attendance. We had volunteers and their partners join us for a very fun and lively evening of pizza and trivia. The Three Amigos team took first prize once again (see pic below), this time Duncan and Brett had help from new volunteer Tony Wilkinson and Duncan’s lovely partner Tina.
We have another Pizza & Trivia night next week on Tuesday 19th August. Duncan and Brett won’t be able to make it this time round, so the competition is wide open. Hope to see you there. RSVP here.
We have another separate article in this newsletter devoted to Alison Black, but I also wanted to acknowledge her passing and the loss experienced by the volunteers, clients and LINK staff members who knew her. She threw herself wholeheartedly into her volunteering role as well as being an active participant in our volunteer social events. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.
Many of our volunteers have been taking holidays over the winter months, some heading overseas to warmer climes. I, myself, will be taking a week off at the end of the month – I’ll be away from the 25/8 and back on 2/9. Thanks to all those of you who have been holding down the fort during the chilly Melbourne winter.
