Preparing for Support at Home Changes
Our team hit the ground running, welcoming new students to assist with a major Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) project. With upcoming changes to the Support at Home Programme, we’ve been busy ensuring our group clients have the correct My Aged Care referral codes in place. This has involved extensive outreach, networking, and presentations to guide clients through the application process.
Celebrating Filipino Independence & Community Spirit
June was a month of cultural celebration and partnership. LINK proudly participated in two **Philippine Independence Day events**, reinforcing our strong ties with the Filipino community:
Bayanihan in Melbourne’s 127th Independence Day Celebration – 7th June 2025
Shade and Maurice attended this special event honouring everyday heroes of the Filipino community. As a sponsor, LINK offered outing vouchers for carers under our Support for Carers Program, ensuring they too can enjoy enriching and fulfilling experiences. It was a wholesome day that not only strengthened our relationship with the community but made us realise how similar we are in our goals of helping people around us.
FCCVI’s Independence Day Celebration – 13th June 2025
As a Platinum Sponsor, LINK contributed 16 prizes for carers and seniors, further supporting this vibrant community. The event was filled with cultural performances, music, and joyful reunions—a true testament to the strength of our partnerships.
Multicultural Day: A Showcase of Diversity & Joy
One of LINK’s most beloved events, Multicultural Day, brought together clients from all walks of life for a day of celebration. Highlights included:
– Stunning performances by the Golden Dance Group, Hope Tan’s Singing Group, and William Napiza’s Dance Group.
– A cultural fashion show, where seniors proudly showcased traditional attire and spoke about its significance in their culture.
– Raffles, delicious food, and non-stop dancing—a true reflection of the joy and connection we foster
Expanding Our Reach: Presentations & Partnerships
Our team has been actively engaging with new and existing groups to broaden access to LINK’s services:
– Summerhill Residential Park – Shade, Rina and her team of students introduced and educated seniors about LINK Community & Transport’s outings and transport services.
– Carers in Wallan – Shade presented the group with an opportunity to engage in an upcoming Support for Carers outing to Werribee Zoo in October.
– Men’s Shed Lalor– Maurice and Sali discussed future respite outings with members of the Men’s Shed to acknowledge their community contributions and offer them meaningful respite.
– Warringal Probus Club & Wyndham Ladies Probus – Engaged Committee members and clients with insights into the aged care system and social support group opportunities.
Festive Fun: Christmas in July Outings
Who says Christmas comes only once a year? Several groups embraced the winter cheer at our Christmas in July events:
– Sky High Dandenong Ranges – Seniors from Point Cook Retirement Village, Doreen Probus, La Trobe Retirement Village, Summerhill Residential Park, and FASCOVI enjoyed festive vibes and breathtaking views whilst enjoying live music and a wonderful Christmas themes buffet luncheon.
– Fortnum’s Christmas Luncheon – ASFAVI and AFCS groups made the most of Melbourne’s winter with a heartwarming Christmas themed 3 Course Luncheon in the beautiful town of Sassafras.
