    Volunteer and Community Update

Posted on April 10, 2026May 7, 2026 by Cassandra Barrett

We have had a boost to our Outing Host numbers with Helen Bai, Mona Mansour, Zhen Zhu, and Lei Wang all joining us since the last newsletter. That will mean more assistance for both our Thomastown outings as well as those originating in the West.

We have also had a new driver join us at Thomastown – Nicole Brown, with a  number of promising new recruits in the pipeline.

A big welcome to all our new volunteer team members!

After running Volunteer BBQs in February and March, the end of daylight savings meant we moved our April volunteer social indoors. bringing back our Volunteer Pizza & Trivia nights. A fun night was had, with four teams participating.

We ran a Volunteer information session on My Aged Care on 24th May. We are keen to let our volunteers know how to navigate the aged care system as you never know when you or a family member may need the support. It was particularly helpful to learn that you can access temporary supports. In the case that you need to have surgery and suddenly find yourself unable to drive yourself around, you could be able to access our LINK transport services.

We’ll be running another info session on Friday 15th May at 10am. Also feel free to bring any friends or family members who may be interested in finding out more. RSVP here.

National Volunteer Week is fast approaching and takes places from 18-24 May. The theme this year is “Your Year to Volunteer” and focuses on encouraging new volunteers and highlighting the joy, purpose, and community connection volunteering brings.

We will be celebrating our LINK Volunteer Community at our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner to be held on Thursday 28th May at the Highlands Hotel in Craigieburn. This was one of the highlights of last year’s volunteer calendar and we really look forward to seeing you there (partners are welcome). If you haven’t already responded, don’t forget to RSVP. We provide carpooling options to assist those who need help getting to the event. RSVP here.

Thanks again to you all for your amazing commitment and support and for the joy and additional ease you bring to the lives of our clients.
