LINK Community and Transport
Transport Operations and Fleet continues to deliver safe, reliable, and responsive transport services across all funding programs while continuing to strengthen fleet security, improve technology, and support safe operational practices across our services.
As we move into July, we’d like to share some important updates from the Transport Operations Team. Thank you to everyone across LINK for your continued dedication, professionalism, and commitment to providing high-quality services to our clients.
New steering wheel club locks
Following recent fleet security enhancements, all LINK vehicles are now fitted with new steering wheel club locks. This initiative has been introduced to strengthen vehicle security and help protect our fleet.
Please take extra care when operating these locks. Unlike our previous locks, the shaft can move quickly when being adjusted or removed, creating a risk of finger or hand injury.
To reduce the risk:
- Hold the lock securely at all times.
- Keep fingers clear of moving parts.
- Operate the lock slowly and never force it.
If you require any assistance using the new steering wheel lock, please speak with the Transport Operations Team. Your safety remains our priority.
New iPad holders
New iPads are being rolled out across our fleet. To support this upgrade, new iPad holders are also being installed to ensure compatibility with the new devices.
As these new holders operate differently from the previous version, some drivers may require assistance when using them for the first time. If you need any help fitting or removing an iPad, please speak with the Transport Operations Team-we are happy to assist.
Winter Driving Reminder
With the colder weather now upon us, we encourage everyone to take extra care on the road. Wet weather, reduced visibility, and changing road conditions can increase driving risks.
Please continue to allow extra travel time where appropriate, drive to the conditions, and always prioritise the safety of yourself, your passengers, and other road users.
Operational Focus
As highlighted in previous newsletters and driver meetings, we continue to reinforce several key operational priorities to support safe, efficient, and high-quality transport services across LINK. These include:
- Daily vehicle inspections and timely reporting of maintenance concerns.
- Maintaining vehicle cleanliness throughout the day and at the end of each shift.
- Refuelling vehicles before returning to the depot where required.
- Following safe client pick-up and drop-off procedures.
- Reporting incidents via the iPad and internal reporting processes.
- Returning vehicle keys to the correct key tray at the end of each shift.
- Placing iPads on charge and closing all open applications before docking.
- Locking the steering wheel using the club lock before finishing your shift.
- Fatigue management and roster compliance.
Continuing our “Safety First” approach across all transport services.
These ongoing priorities help maintain compliance, protect our fleet, and ensure we continue delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality transport services to our clients.
Looking Ahead
Transport Operations and Fleet will continue to focus on:
- Enhancing fleet security and technology.
- Supporting driver safety and wellbeing.
- Maintaining a safe, reliable, and well-maintained fleet.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and drive safely.
